Veg Around the World: Thailand

Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate.

For those who don't- I think it's quite a nice tradition to take a moment and think about everything you are thankful for. So often we forget about that and focus on the negatives!

So the show this week is Veg Around the World : Thai

One of my personal favorites. I think some of you may have seen the episode- well here are the recipes!!!

A lot of people have tried and loved Thai food. It's apparently one of the most popular cuisines to order for takeout worldwide!

Thai food tries to touch more than one of the main taste buds we have - sweet, salty, sour, bitter.

The menu includes: Thai Iced Tea, Fried Tofu with Spicy Peanut butter dipping sauce, Fried Tofu tossed with Scallions and Spicy Peanut butter sauce, Green Curry with Jasmine Rice and Bananas and Lychees in
Sweet Coconut milk.

They are all surprisingly very easy to make and quite yummy.

As always you can either see it at 8 pm on Channel 3 (Comcast) in Brookline on Fridays or Sundays  or on

Do pass on the links to friends who you think may be interested.

Also feel free to clarify any questions from the recipes if you have any.

Here's to fun cooking!

Veg Around the World : France

The show this week is Veg Around the World : France

As always I have made a complete meal including appetizers, main course and dessert from the country. This is show about making authentic tasting ethnic food (ethnic to the country it's  from J) easily.

Typically when we think of French food- it is very meat based but here I have showcased easy vegetarian versions of some old favorites!

One of my pet peeves at French restaurants has been the unavailability of Vegetarian French Onion Soup- the soup always looked so good with the cheese crusted bread and the thick soup- and I never got to try it!
Well- here is an easy recipe for that- and it has been devoured by many who had the option of eating it with meat too!

Also the Chocolate Mousse recipe will become a favorite with any kids who like to cook- it is very easy and very tasty!

The menu for today includes, Tomato Tarte, Avocado with Balsamic Vinaigrette, French onion soup and Chocolate mousse.

I would recommend listening to some French music along with the food. My favorites are La vie en rose by Edith Piaf (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzeLynj1GYM)

Veg Around the World : India

Hello, and welcome to the premier blog for my show "Veg Around the World" on BATV

In each episode I have tried to make authentic tasting dishes - in a very simple way so anyone can attempt them.

This episode is about Indian food. For a few weeks- I will be posting new videos and recipes every week

You can watch it here- if you are not In Brookline MA

And download the recipes here (the link is at the Bottom)

http://batv.org/content/veg-around-world-india-1

The recipes in this show are

INDIA
Drink
·        Mango Lassi
Appetizer
·        Mango Mint Chutney
·        Chickpea flour pancake
Main Course
·        Chickpea stew
·        Basmati Rice
Dessert

·        Rice Pudding

Now Indian food normally does use a lot of spices .

In my recipes here I have used only Three Indian Spices!! Which is quite scandalous but I wanted to make something someone who is trying to cook Indian for the first time can make easily and without having to buy too many spices and still have it turn out delicious and authentic.

Of course- the more you cook and or the more you eat Indian food you start understanding the different tastes with different spices and then you can experiment.  When I prepare Indian food I use about 10 -15 spices on a regular basis!

So what's interesting about chickpeas is that there are actually two types " Desi" and "kabuli"
India typically had the "Desi" Type which are small and green or black while what we call garbanzo or chickpea is native of the Turkish region. Like many things it has been adopted so well into India that almost all lovers of Indian Food have tried "Chana Masala"

These recipes can be changed very easily to make different dishes- for the Chana masala- if you use Red kidney Beans of Black Eyed peas- that tastes good too.

Enjoy!
